The Market
The Problem Statement
The Airavana platform is built to meet enterprise IT cloud services' privacy and security needs. However, because of its development-centric approach, the platform did not communicate well about its privacy and security capabilities to its target customers.

The Discovery
Even though we have clear objectives and a straightforward scope, it was important for us to take a step back and think about what other opportunities were available to us to maximize the overall product user experience. So, we planned initial discovery sessions to understand the big picture of the product. Here is what we covered.

The Validation
The Timeline
As a result of the early discovery sessions, we have been able to clearly define the scope of work and eliminate guesswork and unexpected delays in deliverables.
The IA and User Flows
The fun part of the process is analyzing, evaluating, and defining concepts for a given problem on a whiteboard and moving digital space for effective collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders. This includes creating platform IA, conducting a heuristic evaluation, user flows, and wireframes to generate better solutions.
The Design System
Okay, now let’s paint things up, but first, we need to define a consistent design system and brand style guide. Here is how we approached it.
The Results
It has always been our goal with every project to overcome the key challenges of our persona and take it one step further. So, we completely re-defined the platform architecture and established brand-new components and patterns to help targeted users discover and unlock the full potential of Airavana and keep them in constant control of their data risk. Here is the final output.
Before → After UX details
Here's a quick demonstration of a few UX enhancements we implemented to prioritize relevant information at the right time to simplify the overall product experience.
Existing Screens
- Data discoverability and system status
- Ineffective Information heir-achy and grouping of data
- Unclear product copy and inconsistent design language
- Inconsistent patterns in performing similar workflows
- Critical data is hidden in deeper levels and needs to be prioritised on dashboard
- User needs to navigate different menus to view and monitor data summary and incidents of violation
- There is a bit of a learning curve involved in getting familiar with the product from day 1
- No clear separation between data and scan results
- Currently running scans are hard to discover
- Onboarding new business currently happens through a manual process (No sign-up portal)
- Missing summarised data from other menus (need to show critical data across the platform)
Revamped Screens
- A defined standard set of components for UI elements to ensure consistency
- Better visual representation on critical to low-risk data (Semantic colour coding)
- Risk Score Metric (Incidents) - single aggregative scores at platform level to communicate health
- Product level summarised dashboard (Discovery & violation)
- A quick interactive onboarding tour helps users to quickly understand the product feature-set
- Providing a help guide to understand the product terminology will helps new users
- Better and consistent interaction patterns
The Breakdown
The current process of creating a policy in this data privacy app suffers from usability issues. It is overly complex and lacks a clear overview of each step, making it difficult for users to navigate and understand the process efficiently.
The current information architecture of the application is convoluted, leading to difficulties for users in navigating and quickly finding the relevant information they need. Improving the information architecture will enhance discoverability and streamline the overall user experience.
